Here's a fun fact about igloos: Despite popular belief, igloos are not made entirely of ice. In fact, traditional Inuit igloos are constructed using blocks of compacted snow, not pure ice. The snow blocks are carefully cut and stacked in a spiral pattern to form a dome shape. The insulating properties of the snow help to retain heat inside, making the interior surprisingly warm.

The word "igloo" comes from the Inuit language, Inuktitut, and it means "house" or "shelter." These ingenious structures have been used by the Inuit and other Arctic indigenous peoples for centuries, showcasing the effectiveness of using available resources to create functional and efficient dwellings in extreme cold environments.
